Troubleshooting Point and Print

I was recently troubleshooting an issue with Point and Print. An update that was released in July causes some problem, or more correctly, requires printer drivers that follows the requirements.
For info about the update see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3170005 and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3170455.
If the printer manufacturer doesn’t provide correct driver there is a way to work around this with a registry hack on the print server. Browse to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\… and look for the driver. The registry value “PrinterDriverAttributes” could then be increased to an odd number. For example, change ”4” to ”5”. This sets the flag PRINTER_DRIVER_PACKAGE_AWARE for the driver.

A restart is required on the print server. A 100% unsupported solution. 🙂
